Apple's upcoming operating systems, set to be released this fall, will not be compatible with some older iPhone models. Specifically, if you own an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus, or iPhone X, you won't be able to update to iOS 17. To install the new OS, your iPhone must have an A12 Bionic or later chip. However, if you have an iPhone XR, XS, XS Max, iPhone SE (second-gen), or any newer models, you'll have access to exciting features such as Live Voicemail transcripts, StandBy display mode, and improved autocorrect.
Moving on to the iPad, Apple is introducing customizable lock screens, the Health app, interactive widgets, and more. Unfortunately, the fifth-generation iPad and the first-generation 12.9-inch iPad Pro will not support iPadOS 17. The supported tablets for this operating system are:
- Pad (6th generation and later)
- iPad mini (5th generation and later)
- iPad Air (3rd generation and later)
- 12.9-inch iPad Pro (2nd generation and later)
- 10.5-inch iPad Pro
- 11-inch iPad Pro (1st generation and later)
Good news for Apple Watch users! All devices running watchOS 9 will continue to be supported. If you have an Apple Watch Series 4 or later, you'll be able to enjoy watchOS 10, which focuses more on widgets. This update includes enhancements to the Cycling and Compass apps, among other updates.
Mac users will also receive new features, including widgets, with macOS Sonoma. Additionally, a Game Mode will prioritize CPU and GPU performance to deliver higher framerates for games. The following Mac models will support macOS Sonoma:
- iMac (2019 and later)
- Mac Pro (2019 and later)
- iMac Pro (2017)
- Mac Studio (2022 and later)
- MacBook Air (2018 and later)
- Mac mini (2018 and later)
- MacBook Pro (2018 and later)
For those using Apple TV, tvOS 17 will introduce FaceTime and a feature to find a misplaced remote using your iPhone. This operating system will be available on Apple TV 4K and Apple TV HD.
